Welcome back to another episode of HeyIT’s Tips and Tricks!
This month’s tip is all about keeping your connection safe wherever you work:
Use Secure Wi-Fi Connections.

🌐 Why It Matters

Public Wi-Fi may be convenient, but it’s also a hotspot for hackers. Without protection, someone on the same network could intercept your traffic, steal your passwords, or gain access to sensitive data.
✅ Solution: Connect Safely, Wherever You Are
When working in cafés, airports, hotels, or any public space, protect your connection with a VPN (Virtual Private Network). A VPN encrypts your internet traffic, making it unreadable to snoops on the same network.
🛠 Step-by-Step: Stay Secure on Wi-Fi
On Windows & Mac:
Download and install a trusted VPN app (NordVPN, ProtonVPN, ExpressVPN, etc.).
Open the app, sign in, and connect before browsing.
On Your Phone:
iPhone: Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management, add your VPN, then toggle it on.
Android: Settings > Network & Internet > VPN, add your VPN, then connect.
Or simply use the VPN provider’s app for one-click protection.
⏰ Tip: Set Auto-Lock for Extra Safety
If you forget to lock your screen, auto-lock has your back. Windows: Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Require sign-in Mac: System Settings > Lock Screen > Start screen saver when inactive Phone: Set screen timeout to 1–2 minutes
⏰ Extra Safety Tips
Avoid sensitive actions (like banking or logging into work accounts) without a VPN.
Forget networks you don’t trust so your device doesn’t auto-connect.
Use mobile data instead of public Wi-Fi if you’re in a pinch.
💡 Remember
You don’t need to be a tech expert to stay safe online. With a VPN and a few smart habits, you can use Wi-Fi anywhere without worrying about prying eyes.
