How Much Does IT Support Cost in Edinburgh? (2026 Guide)

Most IT companies in Edinburgh won't put a price on their website. You have to fill in a form, sit through a discovery call and wait for a quote. We think that's daft, so here are the real numbers.

The short answer

Fully managed IT support in Edinburgh typically costs between £95 and £160 per user per month in 2026. If you just need occasional help rather than a monthly plan, expect to pay £60 to £85 per hour, depending on the provider. Our own hourly rate is £65 + VAT.

That per-user range is wide because "IT support" can mean very different things. At the bottom end you usually get a helpdesk and not much else. At the top end everything is included: on-site visits, device management, Microsoft 365 licensing, security training and someone actually planning your IT rather than just patching it.

What moves the price

How much is included. The biggest one. Some providers quote a low monthly figure, then bill separately for on-site visits, projects, licensing and anything they can call "out of scope". Others, like us, put everything in one number. Always compare what is in the price, not the price.

Apple, Windows or both. Plenty of Edinburgh IT companies quietly treat Macs as a nuisance. Proper Apple management (through Jamf) alongside Windows management (through Microsoft Intune) takes real tooling and experience, and providers who do both well are rare. If your office runs MacBooks next to Windows laptops, expect to pay for that capability, and be suspicious of anyone who says they'll "figure it out".

Security and compliance. Phishing training, simulated tests, Cyber Essentials certification support and proper backup checks all add value and cost. If a quote looks cheap, security is usually what is missing.

Contract length. Some providers discount in exchange for a 3-year tie-in. We'd rather stay on monthly rolling terms and earn the work every month.

The three common pricing models

Per user per month. The standard for managed support. Predictable, scales with your team, and the provider is motivated to stop problems happening because fixing them costs the provider, not you.

Pay as you go (hourly). Fine for very small setups or one-off jobs. The catch: your provider earns more when things break, and nobody is watching your systems between calls.

Block hours. You pre-buy a bundle of hours. Feels flexible, but in practice it's pay-as-you-go with a gift card, and the same incentive problem.

For anything beyond about five staff, per-user monthly pricing almost always works out better value once you count the licensing, the security work and the downtime you avoid.

What should be included for £95 to £160 per user

Use this as a checklist against any Edinburgh quote:

  • Unlimited helpdesk support during business hours

  • On-site callouts included, not billed as extras

  • Proactive monitoring and patching of every device

  • Microsoft 365 licensing

  • Apple and Windows device management (Jamf and Intune)

  • Security awareness training with simulated phishing tests

  • Monthly reporting

  • A quarterly review that plans ahead, not just a fault log

If a provider can't tell you within a minute which of these are included, that tells you something.

Questions worth asking any provider

  1. What's your typical response time, in minutes, during business hours? (Ours: most tickets picked up in under 15 minutes.)

  2. What exactly is not included in the monthly fee?

  3. Do you manage Apple devices properly, or just tolerate them?

  4. What's the contract term, and what does leaving look like?

  5. Who answers the phone, a named team or a call centre?

What we charge

Our managed plans run from £95 to £160 per user per month, all-inclusive, on monthly rolling terms. Ad-hoc support is £65 + VAT per hour. We work with Edinburgh businesses with roughly 5 to 50 staff, mostly professional services and growing companies, including MacLean and Bruce, Thomson Print and Packaging and Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools.

If you want to see how your current quote or contract compares, send it over and we'll tell you honestly what's good about it and what's missing. No hard sell, plans are monthly rolling anyway, so the pressure is on us to be good, not on you to commit.
